I have stayed in many hotels in Japan and first time they took a photocopy of my residence card, and they didn’t even ask for permission? They didn’t photocopy my Japanese girlfriend’s ID, why copy my residence card?
Thank you for staying at FLEXSTAY INN Shinagawa. Under the relevant laws and regulations, the Japanese Government is requiring foreign nationals who do not possess an address in Japan to produce and make a copy of their passport upon checking in at lodgings. The residence card is for the proof that the guest possess an address in Japan and it will cut out the need of written a lot of information by the guests which is regulated by the relevant laws if there is a photocopy of the residence card. We ask for the photocopy of the passport first but we misunderstood that it was also the permission for the residence card too. We will destruct the copy of the residence card and apologize for the misunderstanding.
