Unfortunately, I felt very uncomfortable when checking in. I'm non-Japanese and a long-term resident of Japan. I speak Japanese. The staff seemed to confuse me with an overseas visitor. When checking in, I provided my name, address in Japan (in Japanese) and phone number (all that is required by Japanese and non-Japanese residents of Japan). Additionally, they had my credit card details. Yet, they demanded my passport, Residence Card or driving license to check and photocopy. This is against Japan's Personal Data Protection Act. I follow the law of Japan very closely. When a Japanese person checks into a hotel they do not need to provide any ID and certainly not have it copied. Do you not trust your non-Japanese guests? Please follow the law. Under Japanese law, a non-Japanese resident must only show their Residence Card to government officials (Immigration officer, Police). Even if it's your hotel's policy, it's illegal and discriminatory. And overall, terrible OMOTENASHI.
Thank you very much for staying at Hotel New Palace.
According to the law of the Ministry of Labor, foreign guests are required to show and copy their passports. In addition, for foreign nationals residing in Japan,we may check your residence card in order to confirm that you have an address in Japan.
And now I am asking everyone who uses GOTO Travell to show their Identification.
My apologies, I may have not explained things clearly.
